I'm not the most patient of people. I like things to be done immediately (yesterday, if possible), so taking on a new project that requires me to draw many small, straight lines is one that could lead to frustration. Or perhaps, maybe, teach me to be a little more patient with the process.

Needless to say, I didn't achieve much more today than some lines on a piece of paper ;)

A lazy Australia Day, first day of school and little crochet flowers...

Firstly, I hope all my fellow Aussies are having a nice Australia Day holiday. Generally we are out and about somewhere, but we are just chilling at home today. The weather has been horrid (more storms predicted for tonight apparently) and we're just laying low.

Yesterday the kids went back to school for another year. Miss Scooter started into Grade 3 and Mr Rabbit started Prep. Five days to myself. I'm a little overwhelmed actually lol but for the moment, I'm sure Mr Mouse will find me something to do over at the new house. Lots and lots of painting is on the cards I think!

This was the best photo I could get of the two of them. It was pelting down rain outside, so the lighting is dodgy and I don't think Scooter was too impressed lol Note the height difference. There is a 4 year age gap between them... unfortunately Scoot has inherited my genes. Mr Rabbit is on course to over take her in height sometime in the next few years (happened to me with my brother *sob* lol)

Because the weather had been so horrid, I've been taking a little bit of quiet time (any I can get really lol) to work on some crochet flowers (see the Crafty Tuesday link here :)) I started with some little ones using some crochet cotton I had lying around, and I've decided to make one really big flower/doily thing... I think it will look cute in my new studio, plus it's good practice for my crochet technique :)

As usual, I've adapted and fiddled with the pattern because I rarely follow a recipe exactly lol I'm thinking once I've finished that one, I'll go looking for more fancy crochet stitches to use and make some more (well, once I buy more cotton too lol).

Once again, excuse the dodgy photo.

I sure hope the sun comes out again sometime soon. At least the kids are at school tomorrow, but I think I've been booked in to go choose windows and doors and other such things :)

So, of course, I've been searching all over the place for easy-ish to understand patterns and tutorials. This one from Nichole Heady's blog definitely helped to point me in the right direction! (photos of my experiments coming later lol)

I had to take Mr Rabbit to the doctor on Saturday morning. He managed to get an ear infection after intensive swimming lessons all week. Silly me focused on Scooter not getting an ear infection and missed him as he'd never had one in his life, whereas she's had several. For the record, she didn't get an infection this time at all, and I nipped his in the bud quickly.

Anyway, the GP is at the big shopping centre near here. We were out by 11am, and it was getting busy (I really don't like crowds much, and Rabbit was nicely hyped up on panadol, so was being, um... 'bouncy' lol), so I decided to go to our nearby smaller centre to grab some groceries and a small snack for lunch.

I pulled into the carpark and it dawned on me. Chinese New Year. Sunnybank is the place to be for Chinese New Year celebrations and yep, it was crazy, insane busy lol But I found a park straight up, and besides the bustle of people inside, it was rather organised chaos lol and we grabbed some chips and Scooter even found a table in the food court easily enough for us.

I love Chinese New Year. Love the dances and the demonstrations and the art and crafts. It's the year of the Water Dragon which I think is pretty cool.

So I snapped a quick pic on my phone of Rabbit with the dragon on display.

We didn't stop at any of the activities as there were too many people, but we did have a good look :) While we were eating the drums and dragon dance started up behind us. The kids got a little peek at it before the noise of the drums was too much. If I had of been alone, I would have stayed for the whole performance, but, must respect the children's ear drums... mine are already past it ;) They did think it was pretty cool though, even if they did have to cover their ears lol

Next year I might even get organised and do one of the activities with them. A paper lantern or painted mask might be pretty fun :)

Scrapping time

I did sort of have a bit of a giggle at the boot prints through the mud though ;) Hopefully the pool will go in next week! Every week we have to wait though potentially puts us further behind. And with our tight schedule, that could get bothersome.

So, I've decided that a photo-a-day is too hard. I could probably do a photo a week. Pretty easily, actually. But I'm also not the best at remembering to post anything here about it lol

But I came across the idea of 12 of 12, and thought it sounded like fun. The idea is easy... Take 12 photos on the 12th of each month in 2012. Remembering to post one photo a month is definitely something I can handle! lol So here is my first one! :)

With the kids at home and MrD flitting back and forth from here to the new house, life has been a little hectic. Trying to keep the kidlets busy is hard, but we're getting there. Today Scooter started a collage/art journal page. So far she's just got magazine pictures, but tomorrow she will be adding to it.

In other news, I've been a fan of ColourLovers for quite a while now, and they are soon to be launching what looks like it will be a pretty cool and handy site for graphic designers and artists called the Creative Market.

It will be a place for those in the graphics profession (and those who need such graphics) to buy and sell quality handmade vectors, patterns, brushes, fonts and more. It's definitely something that I will be keeping an eye on, and I encourage you to sign up (it's free lol) and have a look when they are up and running as well.

And now I suppose I should head to bed. Late at night is the only time I get to have some peace and quiet to myself at the moment. I'll be glad when the kidlets get back to school and routine returns somewhat. But I guess I will also be painting and helping to supervise 2 lots of renovations as well. What fun! lol

Demolition fun

Yes, I know today was/is Christmas Eve. We are on a tight schedule lol

This morning I took some friends over to the new house to show them around (they are also interested in taking the kitchen off our hands - it's in good condition, but we have no use for it as it won't fit the new space we have designed).

This is what happens when you let MrW loose in our house:

That was a planter/half wall/remnant of the 70's that was in the doorway lol He started by playing with the plastic lattice and then I told him to go for it and pull it all out. So he did. lol.

It looked a little messier than the above after he left. The photo was taken during me pulling it apart properly, removing nails etc and sorting into the rubbish and recycle piles. We always try to reuse as much as possible.

A little later on the IL's arrived... after being shown through the house, this kinda happened...

We've now pulled up about 1/4 of the carpet upstairs. Look at those gorgeous floor boards!

Apparently everyone we know likes to demolish things... I guess its a little cathartic in nature?

All I know is, I had fun today. Although I'm awfully sore and tired right now lol

The kids had fun too. They went to a friend's place and basically swam all afternoon followed by a lovely Christmas Eve dinner. They came home and crashed into bed within 5 minutes lol

All presents are wrapped and waiting under the tree... we made it, so it's time to celebrate tomorrow! :)

the new house should settle and the adventure begins.

We should have the keys in our hot little hands around 4.30pm, all going to plan.

MrD has things and people lined up to do stuff all week. We are blessed to know some amazing people who are going to work hard to help us realize our dream home.

Of course, MrD also has 2 days of work left, and we have some Christmas shopping also left to attend to, but we'll get there in the end. Even if we are braving the shops on Saturday lol

The house plans are drawn, the tradies are almost lined up. The pool is ordered and booked. So is the timber and sheeting for the original house part of the renovation. The aim is to get all the structural stuff done (even down to the painting) and then concentrate on the fittings and decorations.

I'll be packing and moving non-essential (and non-valuable!) stuff over to the new place for storage pretty much as soon as we get back from dropping the kids at Mum & Dad's after Christmas. The aim is to be in the house at the end of March, with one working bathroom, a completed extension (that will house the new kitchen and living areas) and then finish the rest off as we go (NOT taking 10 years like last time lol).

But in the meantime, today we need to get ready for our Church's Carols tonight. MrD is in charge of the bbq. We have onions and sausages and bread rolls all over our kitchen lol Thankfully they will be heading up to the church shortly. All I need to do is make sure the kids and I are there a little earlier so we can get a park and help with any last minute stuff. Will take my camera and hopefully remember to take some pics.

Am still thinking about tomorrow though. :)

And I apologise for the lateness of the prize drawing, but over the weekend I was busy with views like this:

Friday was our 11th Wedding Anniversary, so we took the kids to the beach for a couple of nights. With the new house settling next week, it was the last chance for a Summer holiday for all of us together. It may have rained on and off on Saturday, but we still made it for a walk along the beach Saturday afternoon. The sun came out Sunday morning and we went to the little lagoon/pool next to the beach and the kids had a swim for an hour or so before we had to head home where we unpacked one car and packed up the other and headed out to the dam for some Christmas kayaking & jetskiing fun with some families from school. We missed all the storms (yay!) and had a fantastic time. We ended up with the lake pretty much all to ourselves as everyone else got scared off by the threat of storms. As you can see, there were some clouds, but the lake was picturesque. So smooth and easy to row on, I just rowed out to the middle and sat there for a bit. So peaceful. We had a bbq dinner, watched the sunset and came home. Definitely something we are going to do again!

The kids are on Summer school holidays, so I'm desperately trying to come up with things to keep them occupied. We have friends sleeping over tomorrow, and a couple of playdates organised for later this week. And I still have Christmas shopping to finish. Add to that Mr D is basically going to go nuts as soon as the house settles and is gearing up for a little bit of demolition, and I think it's going to be a busy 6 weeks!

My Etsy store is also on vacation. It will reopen on January 9 with a slight new look and some new goodies that I am slowly working on now (in around the kids and Christmas shopping lol).

Anyway, I have to take the children out to get their hair cut and we really need some groceries, I really can be quite domestic if I try! lol

A jewellery giveaway and a digi freebie

For those that have known me a while, they are well aware that making fun costume jewellery has been a passion of mine for um... well, over 10 years lol Previously, I'd only ever made pieces for myself or as gifts for friends. I've only just started selling my jewellery on Etsy.

Polymer clay however, is a fairly recent addition to the mix. I love the idea of fashioning my own beads, both big and small (and yes, I've even sat down at the table and fashioned my own seed bead sizes over *cough* several hours lol). I love learning about new things and I do love the versatility of polymer clay.

Preoccupied... and a Grand Designs project

If you haven't noticed lol

The year is on it's busy slide again! And to add to all the concerts, assemblies and other things happening, we went a bought a new house on the weekend.

We've been looking for a while now. We've well and truly out grown our little abode and needed somewhere with space (inside and out). We've looked all over the city and even out in rural areas (which really isn't feasible because then Mr D would have to find a new job, and that would be bothersome).

We've come heartbreakingly close to getting some houses, only to be outbid in the last moment, so it was all getting us a little bit down really. Surely there had to be a house out there for us somewhere. We had been looking at finished houses (after renovating for the last 10yrs I really didn't want to live in another one with dust and dirt and power tools), but came to the realisation that it would probably be better to find another renovator... but one that was solid and on a good amount of land.

So the last house we went to look at on Saturday looked a little like this:

Yeah, it's an original condition 1970-ish house. Needs a fair bit of work. We mainly went to have a look because it's on 1000m2. We wandered around for a bit, checking it all out. The land was flat, upstairs wasn't much to look at, but it was definitely well loved and cared for (I've not seen a house like this look so nice and clean before). Mr D and I wandered down the internal stairs and into the open area beneath. Wow. The cement slab was perfect. No cracks, so smooth and it was level! Mr D reached up to try and touch the ceiling (as most houses of this age are not legal height downstairs). When he got the tape measure out of the car, you could have knocked us over. It was legal height - you could build it in straight away.

Needless to say we went upstairs and put in an offer. We got accepted within 2 hours - we'd bought a house! lol It still hasn't sunk in yet. We have the draughtsman lined up to survey the property later this week and get started on our plans. Which is where the Grand Designs come in lol Let's just say we are going to take this beautiful old house and make her pretty again. A nip and a tuck and a nice extension and she will be perfect for us in every way.

I plan to post updates and pictures as we move forward. Mr D thinks we should be in by the end of March if everything goes according to plan, but I'm just going to hope for some time next year ;) The best part is that he can walk to the train and there is a massive park down the end of the street with bike paths and everything so there will always be something for the kids to do. Oh, and there'll be a guest bedroom for visitors (yay!!) and the possibility for my own little space to create and just be me. Starting to get exciting, but I just have to wait until settlement lol

A digiscrap retirement sale and a little freebie

Life has a funny habit of throwing things at you all at once. Unfortunately, that has been happening almost non-stop all year and I've had to make the sad decision to retire from selling my digiscrap designs.

My DS goes to school next year, which will leave me with some free time, and I'm going to use it to play around with my art and jewellery making and to decide whether or not to go back to university and do some post-grad study.

Of course, this is good news for you, because I'm having a 60% off Goodbye Sale on everything in my Funky Playground Designs shop. If you've ever wanted any product of mine, now is the time to grab it because they will never be for sale again.

I'll still be dabbling in design from time to time with freebies available on my facebook page and over at FPD with the My Story Project. I'm also going to just enjoy sitting down and doing some scrapping and catch up on all those photos I have lying around my hard drive.

I have to admit, I love making these. And the last lot I made sold very quickly! Unfortunately, life got in the way and it's been a while since I could find the time to sit down and make some more of my funky little polkadot crochet hooks. I also need to make myself some. I have a small one that I use constantly, but need a couple more sizes. Having the chunky handle really helps my fingers not get too sore when doing fiddly little crochet things.

So, I have seven more polkadot crochet hooks in my Etsy store. Just in time for Christmas too - and in such bright, funky colours!

Just take note that any overseas orders will close in the next few days. And I'll be putting my store on holiday mode as of December 8.

I'm fairly pleased with myself that I managed to get pretty much everything done for Digital Scrapbook Day this weekend. I have lots of goodies in store and even a cute little freebie to share.

Two freebies today. Yep, two.

First up, I have reached the milestone of 500 'likers' on Facebook. Yes, it is true that I may have just missed the actual moment it ticked over and someone had to point it out to me lol but I'm not very observant!

So, up on my page at the moment is this little freebie. A 'fun' freebie was requested, and so I happily obliged :) I also made it CU-ok, so those digi-designers are free to use them in their kits if they so wish.

Woah this week has been a long one. Mr D and I have been a little under the weather and with school going back (and every weekend taken up with at least one event to attend), the blog unfortunately came lower down on the 'to do' list.

Oh my, it's October. My kids are bugging me about Christmas (I am so NOT ready!) and there's only a term left of school to go. Oh, and by the way, yes I did manage to clean the kid's rooms. And I did an awfully good job too ;)

My kids are away until tomorrow. I'm cleaning out their rooms.

Oh. My. Goodness. These kids have amassed a lot of 'stuff'.

Thankfully the boy's room isn't too hard. He has books, cars and Lego - it just needs to be put away in it's right place. The girl's room is a little bit more scary. She hoards stuff and things *never* get put back in the right place - ever. She also 'borrows' her brother's things and hides them *sigh*

I need some really, really big boxes for the stuff going to the op shop.

If I fail to post tomorrow it's because I'm drowning in a sea of Lego blocks and Barbie shoes.

Some new doodly borders and a very quick sale

Because of my internet dying last week, I didn't get to promote my newest digi product. My CT and others had been requesting another pack of Border Doodles, and I've finally managed to finish it :) Border Doodles v2 is now in store!

And because I've been without internet for 4 days, I've also decided to have a very quick sale. For the next 24 hours, everything in my store (including Commercial Use items) will be 34% off (discount will show at checkout). A strange number yes, but my hubby turned 34yo last Thursday, and he's the one who fixed the internet lol so I thought it was fitting :)

I don't have many sales, and this will only be for a short time, so hurry and grab yourself a little bargain :)

Also, because I had no internet last week, I didn't get time to post about the new challenge I am hosting at Funkyplayground designs. Called the My Story Project, is all about scrapping our the stories of our lives. You can find the details here :)

But, my house is pretty tidy and the yard is too. Mr D managed to fix it this morning before work, so I'm all back online.

First trip of Spring...

Spring is here, and that means the jet skis get pulled out the shed, given a once over and we go tripping around the water ways.

Of course, some strange people did go skiing over winter (silly people), but we prefer to wait for the weather to warm up at least a little bit.

Our first trip was yesterday for Father's Day. We spent the night Saturday at the IL's place and then packed 2 cars and a ute and headed off with 5 skis to Somerset... we ended up only using 3 skis as it was *freezing* so only the slightly insane boys went out on the water (oh, and my kidlets went swimming? brrrrr).

Somerset Dam... those clouds meant it got a little chilly. It was nice when the sun came out, even if it only lasted about 30 minutes.

The boy is pretty good at getting that jacket on and off. Only needs a little help now.

On the big ski with Uncle C. This is a new one - 1200 Yamaha. Apparently it goes nice and fast?

Mr D fell off. *snicker*

If you're wondering, yes, we own a lot of jet skis... the boys buy them 2nd hand and then fix them up... it's a hobby - an expensive hobby lol, but a hobby nonetheless, and something they can share :)

The last weekend of Winter is for the.... beach?

Well, today is the first day of Spring here in Australia, but we spent the last weekend of Winter at Twin Waters.... it may have rained on Friday and all day Saturday (oh my, 4 people in a small hotel room is something I will not be wanting to try again for a while!!) but we made up for it with the sunshine we got on Sunday!

On Saturday, once it became clear that the rain was there to stay, we headed out to Buderim to wander around the Ginger Factory. I have to say, apart from Mr Rabbit being a little too energetic, it was quite fun. All photos had to be taken on Miss Scooter's iPod because I may have forgotten to pack the camera charger ;)

We went for a ride around the factory grounds on the old train. We also went on a boat ride and saw the bee show, but the photos aren't that good lol

On Saturday night we took the kids out to the Northshore Tavern for dinner. I cannot praise them enough. They took the time to listen as DH explained Rabbit's food intolerances and made him a special steak & chips meal (with extra carrot lol) and had great customer service. I love pub meals :)

But on Sunday, the sun came out and all was right with the world. We spent a little time at the pool, DH and Rabbit went for a little kayak and then we hit the beach. I thought the water was freezing, but the kids had a blast. Not bad for the last weekend of winter :)

Looks like we are taking the jet skis out for their first spring outing this weekend too... so more photos of water sports next week as well!

A little digiscrap kit for release this week. The original idea came from a Design Factor challenge where we had to create a monochromatic kit. Using a blue and yellow swatch, I had a great time designing this funky little boy kit. It's full of fun and bold patterns, just perfect for your little bundle of energy.

Raining inside...

We've had a little bit of rain the last few days, and a little bit of bother. I woke up the yesterday morning (possibly wandering around in a daze) and went to turn the tv on and noticed water dripping from the air con... oh dear... somehow the rain has found it's way inside. Not sure how as FIL came over and crawled all through the ceiling and tested all the gutters and drainage and there are no problems anywhere. I'm thinking it's a weird fluke of some kind. A combination of heavy rain coming at the perfect angle.... I'm now not really looking forward to the summer rains. Although, we had no issues during last December/January, and that's when we had very heavy rain and severe flooding in Brissie.

But the good news is, after spending all day yesterday with the fan heater going and trying to dry everything out, things seem to be working again. We haven't trialled the media centre yet (DH built it himself, as with most things in our house), and we'll probably give it another couple of days airing time.

I'm just happy that our wifi is working again as I sit infront of TAYG and surf the internet lol

Rosie is a sweet puppy. She's half border collie, half kelpie. She lives on my parent's farm. Mr Rabbit would like to bring her home... but I don't quite think our little suburban backyard would suit an energetic working dog. She's much better off with the sheep, goats and cattle.

I have slowly been learning to crochet. My granny square rug (that I started *cough* last year *cough*) is not yet finished, but I've been playing around with other ideas and incorporating crochet into other areas of my art & craft... in particular the idea of freestyle crochet is quite appealing, but I think I need to master a few more basics first.

But I need more than boring old hooks to play with. They're no fun! So I got out my clay and got to work. My first attempt was a little dodgy to say the least, but I stuck with it.

And so these cute little hooks were born. They meet all my requirements - bright, colourful and a little bit sparkly ;)

All four are available now in my Etsy shop. I had so much fun making them (I kept the prototypes for myself, of course lol) and I can definitely see more being made in the future.

I'm running a little late with this post today. I think I'm actually supposed to be making dinner... but will get to that in a moment.
The weather has turned chilly today, which is typical August weather really. It gave us a couple of tempting warm-ish days the other week and now the wind has picked up and the temperature has gone down. Not to worry though. All that means is that Spring will be here shortly!

I have two products new in my FPD store this week. First up is a commercial use sampler. Containing a handful of high quality element extractions, this little pack is perfect to add to your designer stash. As with all my digiscrap specific CU products, no credit is required and you may use them in your freebies.

And secondly, I've put in store another of my kits that started during the Design Factor race. Summer Escape is all about those lazy summer days when all you want to do is just chill out in the shade of a tree somewhere. It's been slightly revamped from the original, but contains all the usual bold patterns and fun elements.

Most people have a mobile phone. In this house we have one each, but they aren't smart phones lol mine is a boring old Nokia, although Mr D's work mobile is a Blackberry.
Miss Scooter did just get an iPod for her birthday, so I'm thinking one of these cozies would work really well for when we are travelling.

Just a couple of dollars of fun...

Mr Rabbit and I went to the shops on Friday to get a birthday present for my niece. We ended up at the craft store and he found these little wooden cobras. They were only $2.50, so I bought him one to paint when we got home.

He chose the paint, I set him up outside on the deck and showed him what to do, and let him go for it. I haven't got an end result photo (I'll get one later tomorrow), but it has ended up half red and half blue. And he did a pretty good job.

He was going to take it to school today for show-and-tell, but ended up with the vomiting bug that Miss Scooter had on the weekend (thankfully just a small thing - was over in a couple of hours). But it's ready and waiting to go in his bag tomorrow!

I'm a pretty easy-going task master and so is my CT Manager :)

There are positions available for an initial 3 month trial period.
My requirements are simple:

Aiming high

My son is a climber. And a runner. And a jumper. And a talker... and cute - and he knows it. lol
So, of course, when we see a climbing thing at the park, he's all over it.

He gets in among the ropes, climbing through the obstacles...

Until he reaches the top, where he proudly sits and grins down at me.

It's an awfully long way up!!

Thankfully this is one munchkin who doesn't share his mother's fear of heights ;)

He just keeps aiming higher and higher.
Oh to have that innocent ambition and dream again...

Eight years....

Last week my Miss Scooter had her 8th birthday. She had been wanting an iPod Touch for quite a while now, and actually managed to work for it, saving half the amount. The rest was our birthday present to her.

Notice also the lovely knitted head band. That is one of my finished knitting projects. I'm quite chuffed with it actually, and I think Scooter is too... she's worn it out in public several times lol

She even had a little photo with her mummy and of course her newly acquired electronic device ;)

She had her party with friends the weekend before, but I won't post any photos because they all include other people's children ;) I had made a number 8 cake for that one, but for her actual (very low-key) birthday, we had a gluten-free carrot cake... with 8 candles all lined up in a row...

Ahhh... gotta love birthdays... ;)

I've recently dug out my knitting box again and so far have finished one project (photos coming later) and started on another. The bug has bitten me again well and truly.

I will have to admit, I needed a bit of a refresher when it came to the basics. One of those was casting on. A digi freebie and keeping it in the family

You read right lol The designers at FPD have decided to let the kids loose on the computer :)
The Funky Kids section will be added to over the month of July as the kids finish up their projects and put them in store. Miss Scooter and I worked hard for about 2 weeks to get her little mini kit finished. Every element is hand drawn and she even made the overlay for her two solid papers. Although I have to say, teaching a 7yo how to extract in CS5 is a rather time-consuming venture rofl

She drew them in pencil first, then I helped her go over them carefully with a sharpie. She coloured them in and we scanned them in and extracted them. She was very excited to see the finished product.

Somehow I think she's been reading too many Rainbow Fairies and Roald Dahl books lol
But it turned out quite well I think! So if you think my little artist has done a good job, pop on over and buy her Candy Fairy Land creation :)

I finally managed to finish up the Week 2 Design Factor challenge (and before time too! very impressed lol). Last week was completely insane, but we all got there in the end.
We had to design all the patterned papers from scratch. My kit is probably quite typical of me, lots of colour and lots of hand drawn goodies.

30 day photo challenge - day 3

Yes, you may have noticed I took last week off ;)

Day 3 has the theme of 'favourite place'. So I took a picture of my KitKat's current favourite place.
It's winter, it's getting chilly and she's getting old (11 years old this year), so she'll either wait until someone moves and then hop into the nice warm spot they've left behind, or just sit there in front of you with those big green eyes until you feel guilty and shift over and out of 'her' spot ;)

Notice how she's giving me the eye? She's not overly impressed I'm taking her photo lol

Crafty Tuesdays: Facric Rosettes

So far, I've only tried my hand at making these once. And I stuffed it up (yes, I can stuff up even the insanely simplest of things). But I am determined to have another go. I have some ideas for products for the craft markets I am helping to run coming up in September, and I think some fabric rosettes would look awesome on them :)
